got to hate when you bid on a bunch of stuff on teletrade and win 1 cheap coin.

Subtotal 24.00
Buyer's Fee 8.00 (guess the 15% does not apply)
Postage and handling 5.00
________

Total 37.00

I guess I can cash in the rest of the 401K now
I seldom check PM's but do check emails often jason@seated.org

  • Why would people buy from teletrade?! The fees are abhorrent! And worse than screwing the buyer, the seller is even worse off! I really think there is a big market opportunity here for the less greedy!

Well, if they have the coin, then they have the coin. Simple.

Who knows where and why your next purchase will turn up.

And yeah, i'd say the seller is worse off if the buyer knows how to do maths and avoid overbidding.

Those 'low price' items will crush the buyer with fees. That $8 minimum is bad, but it tends to sting only once, as one should clearly remember such a fee for next time!

I used to hate TeleTrade with their wierd reserve policies. However, I now recognize a pattern and believe I can take advantage of it. It takes patience and you have to let coins go by a few times 'unsold'.

    Seven,
I challenge you to set up the infrastructure, hire the employees, do the advertising, and keep your overhead lower.

    OP,
Yes, that used to happen to me on ebay a lot when I was buying machine tools. the shipping was a lot because they were heavy but if you could combine 3 or 4 it got more reasonalbe. I hated it when I only won one and shipping make it a bad deal. -Jerry

I've ended up in the same boat several times. In my case, add in the gas to drive to the post office, and I'm at $40 for the same coin.

On the way home I always try and calculate how many decades I will need to own the dang thing just to break even.

If someone on Ebay charged fees like that, the buyer would seek the death penalty.

The difference is, of course, the seller on eBay is doing nearly all of the work. Photographing the coin and listing it themselves along with shipping it out.
Teletrade does that work for you.
I can't imagine anyone expecting a business such as Teletrade to inventory a coin, catalog it, photograph it and then list it with all with follow-up emails to the winning buyer (as to the coin won and with a shipping notification). Teletrade then packages the coin and mails it out. All for $3.60 'profit' (15% buyer's fee on a $24.00 coin).
Teletrade can't stop submitters from sending low end, cheap coins for auctioning. What they can do to discourage it is charge a higher mark-up on those coins.

What there is, is an opportunity to take back our manufacturing facilities in this country. But government has to be reduced and government brought to it's knees by the people. This election is important for one thing: Restoring our nation. Vote for Frank

The $8 minimum premium sucks, add the 8.750% CA tax and I just can not bid to compete on there.

You're assuming everyone working to make the auction happen is working for free and ignoring the overhead in the building, insurance, employee benefits, etc.
